Small Furries Pet Care

Little VIPs need good care while you're away just like Big VIPs!  You may not be in a position to ask friends or family to help, and booking a professional pet carer like myself is a good solution.

I can care for your pets at your home in their familiar environment and the Furries I look after are:

Before you book I will arrange a free consultation with you to ensure I fully understand the needs of your pets and what your usual pet care routine is. This way I can ensure things stay the same while you're away so your pets feel settled and secure.

DOG WALKING

I offer solo walks and group walks for up to 3 dogs at one time.

With a solo walk your dog will receive my undivided attention and I'll ask you what they really enjoy so I can personalise their walk. Your dog may love a "sniffari" (a slower walk where they can sniff out their world to their heart's content) or they may prefer a faster paced walk with a bit of a run. Or a combination of both! You might want them to have socialisation walks where they can be exposed to varying experiences to build confidence. Perhaps a training walk on a long lead might be your choice if you want your dog to practise their recall.

I can tailor my solo dog walking service to accommodate the needs of anxious dogs. If your dog is very anxious and you'd like to find out how I can help please give me a call.

I will only walk a dog off lead once I've had a chance to get to know them and to assess their recall. I'll only let them off lead if I feel confident they are not a flight risk and I will never walk your dog off lead without your written permission.

I take the wellbeing of any dogs in my care very seriously and take proactive steps to ensure their safety and security.

When I collect your dog they will be secured in my vehicle, and on returning home I'll clean any mucky paws, top up drinking water and ensure your dog is settled comfortably.

With group walks, I walk a maximum of 3 dogs at one time.  This means I can ensure doggie companions are well matched and thoroughly enjoy their walks. It's not enough for dogs to simply tolerate each other, it's much more fun if they actually like each other!

Many dogs like to make friends. I keep a close eye on the group's interactions to check they're all getting along well. If a dog is hanging back or clearly not comfortable I will try to match them with other companions.

FREE 'Meet and Greet' with you and your dog

Before any arrangements are made for me to walk your dog I will organise a 'Meet and Greet'. There's no charge for this.

Here we can discuss your requirements, I can answer any questions you have, and I get to meet your dog. It's helpful if we can both take your dog on a short walk together so I can observe your dog when outside and they can get to know me a little.

Then, if you are happy for me to walk your dog we can organise this.

DOG and PUPPY HOME VISITS

There may be times when you're stuck at work and you need somebody reliable to call in on your dog. Maybe your dog is elderly and not keen to walk but needs company while you're out. Or perhaps they are recovering from an operation and need extra TLC when you can't be there. Whatever your situation, I'd like to help.

I offer home visits which are flexible according to the needs of you and your dog. Before I start caring for them I will organise a free Meet and Greet where I can meet you and your furry friend to find out about their routine. Generally on my visits I'll let them into the garden for a toilet break, freshen their water, give them food if required, lavish them with lots of love and check they are well and relaxed before I leave. And anything else which you've specifically requested.

Puppies require regular care during the working day and this can be difficult if you are out of the home for an extended time. Leaving a puppy alone for long periods may result in separation anxiety which can bring about unwanted behaviour and potentially delay them mastering their toilet training.

I can bridge this gap by providing home visits. I will replenish their water and provide food if needed, support you in their toilet training by taking them into the garden for toilet breaks, and help them get rid of excess energy through play. I'll also clean up any puppy accidents I might find on my arrival!

If your puppy is old enough and has had their vaccinations I can take them on a short walk. This helps them to experience new things gradually, such as seeing other dogs and their owners, getting used to external sounds such as cars, and processing the many smells of their outside environment.

Socialisation in their early weeks helps them to respond to their outside world in a confident, calm way and lays the foundations for them to become a good family dog.

CUSTOMISED SERVICE for ANXIOUS DOGS

I am experienced in handling anxious dogs and I walked many as a volunteer at a rescue centre. My own dog is a rescue and she was traumatised when she came to me. She didn't move out of her crate for 3 days and then hid behind the armchair for 2 whole weeks. With training (and a lot of patience!) I helped her progress from a dog who used to physically shake when I went near her to a dog whose tail and bottom regularly wag!

I've heard owners say their dog is too anxious to walk with anybody else, or having a dog sitter visit their pet when they are at work would be impossible because their dog is so nervous.

Whilst I understand this sentiment, these issues can be overcome or vastly improved.

I can tailor my dog walking and house visit service to accommodate dogs who are anxious. This takes patience and time and will not happen overnight.

I will initially arrange a 'Meet and Greet' with you and your dog - there is no charge for this. This is a good opportunity for me to observe your dog's behaviour. They will constantly be communicating their emotions through their body language and by observing this and responding accordingly I can start to build trust and confidence in your dog.

CAT CARE at YOUR HOME

Some cats feel very anxious being placed in a cattery with the sound and smell of other cats, and having to leave the familiarity of their home environment. It's also stressful for owners leaving their cat when they know their little one will be unsettled. This is why many owners prefer them to be cared for at home if they are away. A good solution is my Cat Care at Your Home service.

I'll arrange a free consultation with you to find out about your cat's routine and environment and what's important to you as an owner. This will also give you an opportunity to ask me any questions. Just as importantly, I'll hopefully be able to meet your cat and give them a chance to get to know me a little before I start caring for them.

I'll also want to find out about your cat's likes and dislikes. I believe cat care should be so much more than just replenishing food and water and changing a litter tray. If your cat likes to play I can include this in my visit, and cats who like a cuddle on a lap can be thoroughly indulged!

I'll also endeavour to keep an eye on your cat's health while you're away.  Outdoor cats can get up to all sorts of mischief which can occasionally result in injury (for example a cut paw, or a nasty bite from another cat). If this happens I'll contact you and I'll take your cat to your vet if necessary.

I can take in your post, put on lights and draw curtains so your home looks "lived in" while you're away.

You'll get regular "cat-chups" from me by text or WhatsApp letting you know how your pet is doing.
